    What is Doctor Dolittle Riddle?

The riddle typically reads like this:

Riddle me this. You walk into Dr. Dolittle’s room and see a bed. On the bed there are 2 dogs, 4 cats, a giraffe, 5 cows and a duck. There are also 3 chickens flying above the bed. How many legs are on the floor?

Some versions of the riddle also read:

You walk into a room and see a bed. On the bed there are 2 dogs, 4 cats, a giraffe, 5 cows and a duck. There are also 3 chickens flying above the bed. How many legs are on the floor?

    Answer:

    Six legs.

The most accepted answer for this riddle is six. While some people think the answer to be zero as the think that all the animals listed are on the bed and the chickens flying is a distraction. So they end up giving the answer zero to it.

But the trick to solve this riddle is, to understand that though all the animals are on the bed, the bed itself has four legs. In addition to that, two legs of the person walking into the room make it a total of six legs. As the riddle has not asked a specific pair of legs, any pair of legs can be taken into consideration.

However, there have been some people, who point out that not all the beds have legs and the bed sits directly on the floor. In that case, the answer becomes 2 legs. In this case, only the man’s pair of legs have to be taken into consideration.

So to conclude, the answer is six legs. Four legs of the bed and two of the man who walks into the room. Arguably, depending on the bed type, on several occasion, the answer can be two legs as well.

TRENDING ANSWER: ‘YOU WALK INTO A ROOM AND SEE A BED’ RIDDLE EXPLAINED – HOW MANY LEGS ARE ON THE FLOOR?

    Paul Fogarty

The ‘you walking into a room and see a bed’ riddle will certainly test your maths skills but it’s actually much easier than you might think.

With the world on almost total lockdown at the moment, we’re all spending much more time at home than we’re used to.

As a result, we’ve all been left having to find ways of keeping ourselves entertained.

While many have turned to the likes of Netflix and Disney+ to keep themselves occupied, others have preferred more engaging methods by taking part in riddles, challenges or brain teasers.

One of the most recent riddles to surface online has been the ‘you walk into a room and see a bed’ riddle but what exactly is the answer to this puzzling problem?

RIDDLE ME THIS: Don’t be fooled by the four-legged table riddle

RIDDLE: YOU WALK INTO A ROOM AND SEE A BED

The ‘you walk into a room and see a bed’ riddle is as follows:

You walk into a room and see a bed. On the bed, there are two dogs, four cats, a giraffe, five cows and a duck. There are also three chickens flying above the bed. How many legs are on the floor?

That’s a lot of legs to think about but the answer is much simpler than you’d first think.

ANSWER: YOU WALK INTO A ROOM AND SEE A BED

So just how many legs are on the floor of this zoological bedroom?

There are a total of six legs on the floor.

‘But how?’ we hear you ask.

Well, that all stems from the fact that almost all of the animals in this room are all on the gigantic bed and the ones that aren’t on the bed are flying in the air above it at the exact moment you walk in (even though chickens can’t fly for very long, we’re only counting the exact moment you walk in).

As a result, only your two legs and the four legs (or feet – yes, we’re counting feet as part of a leg) of the bed are touching the floor in this animal-filled room, hence the answer of six.

    What’s your reasoning?

    CJ says

    August 9, 2014 @ 19:39

There are 4 bed legs on the floor. The persons legs can’t be counted as on the floor as their feet are what’s touching the floor.

    Dan says

    August 11, 2014 @ 16:45

CJ: Following that reasoning, there would be no legs on the floor. The feet of the bed are touching the floor too.

    Nette says

    August 11, 2014 @ 18:45

None. Feet on the floor. Beds have posts.

    Victoria says

    February 4, 2015 @ 10:56

None. Because you are on your feet the bed has no legs chickens don’t fly which means they would be on the floor but also standing on feet!

    I’l say 6 legs r on d floor #GeneralKnowledgeAnswer O.o :-)

first of all the question was incorrectly asked because the actual riddle has feet and not legs to prove the riddle suppose to be feet cow have legs hippos have legs but no feet so the whole structure of this riddle is wrong but in conclusion the answer suppose to be 2 because of your own two feet cause a bed doesn’t have feet it has legs

You walk into a room and see a bed. On the bed there are two dogs, four cats, a giraffe, five cows and a duck. There are also three chickens flying above the bed. How many {legs}(FEET) are on the floor?

Chickens do not fly though….is that not a trick question then?

    Dan says

    June 10, 2015 @ 12:34

It’s true, chickens can’t fly long distances. But they can fly over a bed for a few seconds.

    Darren says

    June 10, 2015 @ 13:39

The answer is not six its four. The question is how many legs are on the floor. Since the bed has only one foot and has four legs to support the bed and the person who walked in to the room was on there feet when they walked in and not on there legs. The answer is four.

    Jane says

    June 10, 2015 @ 14:34

it asks how many legs on the floor? You do not walk on your legs but on your feet so your legs are not on the floor. So the answer would be 4 from the bed

    master says

    June 10, 2015 @ 16:13

A person touches the floor with their feet so that’s wrong, it’s 4 from the bed and that’s it

    master says

    June 10, 2015 @ 16:13

    Dammit Jane lol Don says

    June 11, 2015 @ 00:01

    I’ll say zero.

You are assuming that it’s a poster bed or similar? What if it’s a pedestal or platform bed? No legs there. I stand on my feet, no legs there.

    Robin says

    June 11, 2015 @ 08:11

    Whats the correct answer?

    Dan says

    June 11, 2015 @ 10:51

@Robin It depends who you ask :)

    Nikki says

    June 11, 2015 @ 13:35

Chickens don’t fly around so they could be laying on the floor so could be 10 legs unless you count feet too to which there would be 12 counting yours

    Dan says

    June 11, 2015 @ 13:48

@Nikki You should tell the chickens they don’t fly around. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03BO8WCwWas

Why would ur legs be on the floor if your walking on your feet.. And bed posts legs there are four. That’s the answer four from the bed. Cause ur on your feet.. And some call them bed legs or posts …

    Amy says

    June 12, 2015 @ 00:28

I’m still saying 6… 4 legs on the bed and yes my legs because if I saw all that madness I would probably pass out… So my legs would be touching the floor

    Tucker says

    June 12, 2015 @ 02:27

my bed has 6 wheels Theresa says

    June 12, 2015 @ 09:11

my bed is a pedestal bed so it doesn’t have any legs. And if feet don’t count then the answer would be 0. Honestly, not enough information to answer it definitively.

    Kaitlyn carter says

    June 12, 2015 @ 16:26

Actually the bed could just be a mattress and in that case there are no legs on the floor. The bed could have a frame with 2 legs and in that case there would be 2. Or there could be 4 legs from the bed. The persons legs are not on the floor their feet are on the floor.

    HotLips says

    June 12, 2015 @ 21:22

    Zero.

    Could be a flower bed.

    Feet on floor ..not legs

    Johnnie says

    June 13, 2015 @ 16:08

They said a bed…. but that could be a bed of hay which would make more sense… 0

    Mebss says

Chickens do fly. They certainly did on my aunt and uncles farm. Also the have feet just like people. There are only four legs on the floor.
