    Mapping the Brain

The cerebrum, the largest part of the human brain, is associated with higher order functioning, including the control of voluntary behavior. Thinking, perceiving, planning, and understanding language all lie within the cerebrum’s control.

(refraining from buying stuff) and reward-based decision making (trying to win money during gambling).

The patterns of lesions (area suffering from injury or disease) that impair specific tasks shows a very clear separation between those regions of the frontal lobes necessary for controlling behavior, and those necessary for how we give value to choices and how we make decision.

The pre-frontal cortex, sitting behind one's forehead, is evolutionarily the latest addition to the Human Brain, and serves several processes; one of most importance is decision making. This region is the last to fully develop in adults, settling down at around age 25 for men, sometimes earlier for women. Teenagers' brains still in adolescence continue to develop the Frontal cortex into adulthood, this is why teenagers are prone to risky tendencies and behavior, as they learn and their brains grow into maturity!

The central decision-making process occurs in the prefrontal cortex.

Within the prefrontal cortex, different areas play different roles. For example, in deciding whether or not to apply to a job, one area (orbitofrontal) assesses the expected reward-value of doing so while another area (ventrolateral) assesses the chances of succeeding.

However, the prefrontal cortex never works alone because decision-making involves things like goals, feelings, courses of action, and so on. So decision making in the prefrontal cortex is generally part of a broader network involving multiple brain areas (amygdal

Decision-making is a complex process that we only partially understand. But we do know that the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is involved in it, along with the areas that send the PFC inputs, or regulate these inputs: particularly the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, and basal ganglia.

    Occipital Lobe

part of the brain, located at the rear of the cerebrum, where vision is processed

    Cerebellum

one of four major parts of the brain, it is responsible for initiating and timing movements and is important for balance, posture, and coordinating how muscles work together. The cerebellum begins developing after the brain stem, but before the parts of the brain responsible for conscious thought and action.
