After months of anticipation, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is finally in theaters. Not only does the highly anticipated sequel fling Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystic arts through a dizzying array of alternate Earths, but it also marks Sam Raimi's return to the superhero genre - and considering that this year also serves as the 20th anniversary of his first Spider-Man film, it has major resonance. Multiverse of Madness has already locked in one of the most impressive opening weekends of the year; however, given the rise of streaming services - particularly Disney+, which holds nearly every Marvel Cinematic Universe project to date - some viewers are more than likely to wait until they can watch the film from the comfort of their homes. With that in mind, here is when fans can expect to stream Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Recent Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, including Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings, made their debut on Disney+ within 45 days of theatrical release. This approach was put into place last year by Disney CEO Bob Chapek, who infamously referred to it as “an interesting experiment” prior to Shang-Chi’s release. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be available to stream on Disney+ starting on June 22.

Will Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness be available to rent on-demand?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should be available to rent on video platforms shortly after its debut on Disney+. Those video platforms include Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes, Google Play, and YouTube.

Will Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness be Available on Home Video?

Shortly after its VOD debut, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should be able to purchase in-home video format: more specifically on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD. In the vein of other MCU films, Multiverse of Madness will have different bonus features and exclusives based on the store and format. Some of those bonus features will more than likely be bonus features: Raimi confirmed in a Collider interview that his first cut of the film was around 2 hours and 40 minutes.

What is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness about?

    Image via Marvel Studios

Picking up after the events of WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness finds Doctor Strange encountering America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a teenager with the ability to cross dimensions. With the help of his friend and fellow sorcerer Wong (Benedict Wong), Strange seeks out Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) for her help in navigating the multiverse, unaware that she may have different intentions than him. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams will reprise their roles from the first Doctor Strange film as Karl Mordo and Christine Palmer, respectively, while other Marvel characters from across the multiverse may or may not appear. Add in Raimi's penchant for horror, and you've got a recipe for spine-tingling success.

Where To Stream Other Sam Raimi Films

While fans wait for Multiverse of Madness to hit streaming, they can check out the rest of Raimi’s films via other streaming and VOD services. In addition to the Spider-Man film trilogy and Multiverse of Madness, Raimi’s dabbled in the horror genre with his Evil Dead trilogy, made a Western in The Quick and the Dead, and even jumped on the prequel train with Oz the Great and Powerful. Raimi even delivered his own take on the superhero genre with the first Darkman film and the M.A.N.T.I.S. television series.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently playing in theaters.

The sequel to Doctor Strange will be streaming at the end of the month. Marvel announced today that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be available on Disney Plus starting on June 22nd. The film, which once again stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular sorcerer and is directed by Sam Raimi, first hit theaters on May 6th. My colleague Charles Pulliam-Moore called it “a bloated comic book event in movie form” in his review, but hey, at least now you won’t have to brave any theater lines to check it out.

Of course, there are plenty of other elements of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney Plus. The debut season of Moon Knight just wrapped up, Ms. Marvel kicks off next week on June 8th, and a She-Hulk series is coming in August. On the theatrical side, Thor: Love and Thunder is premiering on July 8th — and you can check out a brand-new trailer right here.

Get ready to step into the multiverse.

After getting several glimpses of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over the past few months, the film was finally released on May 6.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff), the movie is unlike any other Marvel movie we've seen before with the various cameos and spooky horror elements.

If you didn't catch the film in theaters, the good news is that it will be available to stream very soon.

On June 2, Marvel announced that the film will be coming exclusively to Disney+ this month. Keep reading for everything to know.

When did Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness release in theaters?

The film was originally supposed to be released on May 7, 2021, but kept getting pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film then hit theaters on May 6, 2022.

What is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' exclusive theatrical release window?

In 2021, Disney gave a handful of its films a minimum 45-day exclusive theatrical release. While the studio hasn't officially committed to a specific window for its 2022 film slate, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did end up following the 45-day exclusive theatrical release window to an extent.

"We are sticking with our plan of flexibility because we are still unsure about how the marketplace is going to react when family films come back with a theatrical-first window," Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek said in November 2021.

"We are going to do what's best for our shareholders. We don't announce our films that far in advance because we know we are in a time of flux and change," he continued. "And while COVID will be in the rearview mirror, god willing, I think changing consumer behavior is something that's going to be more permanent. And so we're reading that on a weekly basis and will make our decisions going forward accordingly."

When will Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness be available to stream on Disney+?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be available to stream on Disney+ on June 22, about a month before the release date of the MCU's next big film, Thor: Love and Thunder.
