Massive Stranger Things season four spoilers follow.

The beginning of the end of Stranger Things has finally landed with an absolutely jam-packed season four. And the best bit? It’s not even over yet.

In fact, we’re only two-thirds of the way through (or one ‘volume’ depending on who you ask) and now we’re flipping ourselves upside down as we impatiently wait for the final two episodes to drop.

Thankfully, compared to the painful three years it took for Stranger Things season four to appear back on our screens, this time it’s returning within a comparative blink of an eye.

But we have to be careful what we wish for, because it comes with a catch.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new season.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2: What is the release date?

Stranger Things part four volume two will launch on July 1, 2022 – just six weeks after the mid-season finale.

It’s also a bit different in structure to the first half, coming in at only two episodes in length.

But boy, are they going to be massive… literally. It’s been confirmed that the penultimate episode is going to clock in at 85 minutes in length, while the finale is going to be a staggering two-and-a-half hours long.

So get cosy, cook a mountain of eggos and get ready to watch an episode so long it would make a Marvel movie blush.

Whatever happens will pave the way to the upcoming confirmed season five – which is also the last in the series as the Hawkins adventures finally come to a conclusion.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 cast: Who will be in it?

As it stands, all the major players are due to continue their efforts to stop Vecna and close the Upside Down for good.

This includes stars Millie Bobby Brown (who plays Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Noah Schnapp (Will) and Sadie Sink (Max).

Their characters will thankfully have some friends on hand in the shape of Robin (Maya Hawke), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). New additions include Argyle (Eduardo Franco) and Eddie (Joseph Quinn).

As for the adults, Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are thankfully reunited with the help of Murray (Brett Gelman). Now they just need to get back to the States safely.

But with all the good guys come some bad guys, and they don’t come much worse than Jamie Campbell Bower, aka 001, aka Vecna. The ultra-powerful supposed ward-guard is actually highly bonded to Eleven, only with far more violent tendencies. He now feasts on those with trauma and guilt in their past, shattering their bones every time.

The only person to escape his clutches thus far is Max (thanks to Kate Bush, naturally), but we’re curious to see how this goes.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 plot: What will happen?

In the final two episodes of the season we’re likely to see how the gang join forces in order to take down the terrifying being that is Vecna – especially now they know his real identity.

During the ‘Massacre at Hawkins Lab’, Vecna revealed himself actually be 001 – the first superpowered child to be taken in by the lab.

001 had been chipped and experimented on, with his blood being used to later breed a host of children with powers… including Eleven.

He is also, unfortunately, highly narcissistic, and believes his power proves he is above your average human. After wiping out all the patients and doctors at the ward, he found himself sparing Eleven, who he’d bonded with during his time in the lab. But she denied his request to help him take over humanity, instead overpowering him and sending him to the Upside Down before fleeing. So let’s be clear – Vecna has some scores to settle, and it’s got to start with Elle.

Stranger Things fans, prepare yourselves for more creepy goings-on!

Over three years since we last saw Eleven, Mike and the rest of the Hawkins gang, it’s almost time to step back into the world of the thrilling Netflix series.

The first half of the beloved series’ fourth season is set to land on Netflix later in May, while the second half will follow in 2022.

And, judging by Sadie Sink’s recent comments, the next chapter is going to be stranger (no pun intended) than ever.

"It's the most bizarre season we've ever had," she told People. "Just the scale of it is out of this world.

"We get to explore a lot of different themes and different sides of the characters that everyone knows and loves, so I'm looking forward to it. It's coming!"

Speaking to RadioTimes.com and other press in May 2022, Sink also revealed that her character Max has a darker storyline in the coming episodes.

"I mean, yeah, she had some heavy stuff this year. It was kind of a nice challenge, figuring out what these types of [moods] looked like on Max and find something that felt true to her. The writing was really good. So it made my job a lot easier," she said.

"It was kind of a more careful process than I think I was used to in previous seasons. Because, I mean, we were always dealing with supernatural elements and heavy stuff like that. But season 4, it feels a little bit more human. So it required a little bit more attention and focus.

Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in Stranger Things season 4 Netflix

Season 4’s arrival is bound to be bittersweet for fans, with the Duffer brothers having confirmed that season 5 will be "the last" and that it will conclude the show for good.

A trailer was previously released which teased some more details about season 4 – revealing that it will pick up 185 days after the previous season and showing Eleven adapt to her new home in California, while also including shady government types and a big explosion...

Earlier trailers had included footage of Eleven being restrained by an unknown character and some spooky scenes of the rest of the gang entering the Creel house, which used to be owned by a character played by Freddy Krueger legend, Robert Englund – so it looks like there's an awful lot to look forward to.

Read on for everything we know so far about Stranger Things season 4 on Netflix.

Stranger Things season 4 release date

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 will land on 27th May 2022.

However, fans will have to wait until 1st July 2022 for season 4 part 2.

And with some pretty staggering episode runtimes, the upcoming season is going to be bigger than ever.

In March last year, David Harbour (Hopper) revealed during an Instagram Q&A that season 4 was originally “supposed to come out" in early 2021, but that the release date would be “pushed back” in wake of COVID-19.

If things hadn’t had to be paused, it looks like filming would have finished up in August 2020. The script was finished a while ago, and production started in March 2020.

Actor Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) told Fanmio that filming was set to wrap in summer 2021 and this was backed up by David Harbour's comments on a June episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he revealed that shooting is "almost done".

"I've got one more little stint, we should be done in like August," he said, although an effects-heavy show such as Stranger Things will require several months of post-production.

Star Finn Wolfhard had previously suggested we wouldn't see season 4 until 2022, telling a Fanmio user that Stranger Things 4 "should be out some time next year hopefully”.

Priah Ferguson, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin in Stranger Things season 4 Netflix

Co-star Gaten Matarazzo employed a similar strategy when he was quizzed on a release date by Collider in March 2021, saying there was still quite a bit of filming to get through.

“There’s very few dates that are reliable,” he said. “It really is more of a ‘guesstimation’ on when we’re gonna be filming next, when we’re gonna be wrapping up, when release is gonna be, all that jazz because we still don’t know on day-to-day if we’re gonna be filming next week.”

He added: “I should be filming like next month for a bigger chunk than I’ve had in a bit, but even though it’s coming up in about two weeks from now, I still don’t know an exact date. So because of that, there’s really no way to figure out when we’re gonna be wrapping.”

Season 4 of Stranger Things will be released in May

After production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stranger Things 4 is coming to Netflix on May 27, 2022. At least, Vol. I is — the show's social media accounts posted a series of posters promoting the highly-anticipated upcoming season and made the official announcement in an Instagram post.

"Every ending has a beginning. Vol. 1 is coming May 27. Vol. 2 is coming July 1," the caption reads. This means that ST4 will be divided in two separate parts, and on May 20, Netflix clarified that Vol. I will contain seven episodes while Vol. II will have two. The streamer also shared the first eight minutes of the season's first episode, which you can watch below:

Before any official announcements were made, David Harbour reassured fans that Stranger Things 4 was coming soon while he was on the jumbotron at a New York Knicks basketball game. Sitting courtside next to Noah Schnapp, David held up his phone, which read the message "Stranger Things Season 4 is coming soon, promise."

    Is there a full trailer?

Yes! While we still have a few weeks to go, the official full trailer for Stranger Things 4 dropped on April 12 and we have chills. Hopper is alive and imprisoned in Russia, Max is levitating midair, the Hawkins kids are preparing for war with the Upside Down, while Eleven is told that she's the only one who can save them, and OK, now demogorgons can speak?! So much is happening.

Netflix gave fans a glimpse into Stranger Things 4 in a teaser trailer that dropped on September 26, 2021.

The clip introduces a brand new setting in Hawkins, the Creel House. In the beginning, there's a flashback of a family from the 1950s or 1960s displaying some peculiar behavior in the house. The clip then fasts forward to the '80s, the decade that the show primarily takes place. Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Max, and Steve are exploring the Creel House, which seems to be abandoned. Could this be a major factor in the ST4 plot?

In case you need a refresher, Eleven and the Byers family made the move to California at the end of season 3. On November 6 — also known as Stranger Things day, as it's the date Will went missing in season 1 — Netflix dropped a few teasers, where we see Eleven (with a brand new hairstyle!) adapt to her new environment while writing a letter to Mike.

Are there any photos from Stranger Things 4?

Yep! On March 23, 2022, Netflix dropped *multiple* photo dumps on Twitter with brand new pics from the upcoming season. This is surely enough to hold Stranger Things fans over until the new episodes drop on the streaming platform in May, but until then, I have lost any ability to chill.

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes shots from Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 6, 2022. "What's something that feels illegal but isn't? Posting anything related to Stranger Things before the season comes out," the 17-year-old star wrote in his caption.

In the photos, he's rocking a light blue Stranger Things 4 sweatshirt with "Albuquerque, NM" written on the sleeve. So, where can I get one of my own? ...Asking for a friend.

    Are there any new characters?

Looks like there are going to be some brand new faces joining the cast and one of them has a big link to an already beloved star on the show. During Netflix's Geeked Week, the Duffer Brothers announced some never-before-seen characters for season four.
