Stranger Things season four spoilers follow.

The beginning of the end of Stranger Things has finally landed with an absolutely jam-packed season four. And the best bit? It's not even over yet.

In fact, we're only two-thirds of the way through (or one 'volume' depending on who you ask) and now we're flipping ourselves upside down as we impatiently wait for the final two episodes to drop.

Thankfully, compared to the painful three years it took for Stranger Things season four to appear back on our screens, this time it's returning within a comparative blink of an eye.

But we have to be careful what we wish for, because it comes with a catch.

Here's everything you need to know about the new season.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 release date: When is it on?

Stranger Things part four volume two will launch on July 1, 2022 – just six weeks after the mid-season finale.

It's also a bit different in structure to the first half, coming in at only two episodes in length.

But boy, are they going to be massive. It's been confirmed that the penultimate episode is going to clock in at 85 minutes in length, while the finale is going to be a staggering two-and-a-half hours long.

That's enough to make Marvel wince.

So get cosy, cook a mountain of Eggos and get ready to watch an episode so long it would make Christopher Nolan blush.

Whatever happens will pave the way to the upcoming confirmed season five – which is also the last in the series as the Hawkins adventures finally come to a conclusion.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 cast: Who will be in it?

As it stands, all the major players are due to continue their efforts to stop Vecna and close the Upside Down for good.

This includes stars Millie Bobby Brown (who plays Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Noah Schnapp (Will) and Sadie Sink (Max).

Their characters will thankfully have some friends on hand in the shape of Robin (Maya Hawke), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). New additions include Argyle (Eduardo Franco) and Eddie (Joseph Quinn).

As for the adults, Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are thankfully reunited with the help of Murray (Brett Gelman). Now they just need to get back to the States safely.

But with all the good guys come some bad guys, and they don't come much worse than Jamie Campbell Bower, aka 001, aka Vecna. The ultra-powerful supposed guard is actually highly bonded to Eleven, only with far more violent tendencies. He now feasts on those with trauma and guilt in their past, shattering their bones every time.

The only person to escape his clutches thus far is Max (thanks to Kate Bush, naturally), but we're curious to see how this goes.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 plot: What will happen?

The final two episodes of the series are set to be whoppers. The total run time for both is just shy of four hours which means the Duffers have packed a lot into them.

The Hawkins gang is literally scattered across the globe thanks to Hop, Joyce and Murray's jaunt in Russia, with pockets of individual stories taking place at once. Now it's time to tie them together.

In the final two episodes of the season we're likely to see how the gang join forces in order to take down the terrifying being that is Vecna – especially now they know his real identity.

During 'Massacre at Hawkins Lab', Vecna revealed himself actually be 001, the first superpowered child to be taken in by the Dr Brenner at the lab.

001 had been chipped and experimented on, with his blood being used to later breed a host of children with powers… including Eleven.

'Stranger Things' Season 4 Volume 2 Release Date, News, Spoilers and Cast

If you’re already counting down the days until the second volume of 'Stranger Things' season four, here’s a rundown of everything we know.

Everything You Need to Know About ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Volume 2

The run times are out of this world!

    JUN 14, 2022

The fact that we’ve waited for season 4 of Stranger Things for almost Three! Full! Years! made the first volume that much more satisfying to watch. I mean, did you seeeee the ending?! Thankfully, the much-awaited second volume is only 29 days and 10 hours away (yes, we are definitely counting), but until then, it’s time to get back into waiting mode.

Luckily, the waiting won’t be in vain because Shawn Levy, the show’s director, teased that there’s still lots more to come. “I’ll just tell you, as great as volume 1 is, volume 2 is extraordinary,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I can’t wait for the world to react to volume 1, knowing that they have such rich episodes to come in just over a month.”

So let’s breathe a collective sigh of relief that our fave show is coming back v soon, and in the meantime, we’ll get into every single thing there is to know about season 4 volume 2. Shall we? We shall!

So, when does volume 2 come out?

The second installment of Stranger Things season 4 comes out on July 1. Yep! So mark your calendars and prepare to binge!

How many episodes will volume 2 have?

The entire season is made up of nine episodes. Seven episodes premiered in the first volume on May 27, while volume 2 will have only two episodes that ultimately finish the story.

If you’re concerned about the episode split—it’s fine, we were too—not to worry! Just because there are fewer episodes in the second volume doesn’t mean they’re not filled to the brim with action. Episode 9, for example, is “a long movie”—like, we’re talking nearly 2.5 hours long, according to what producer Matt Duffer told The Wrap. Episode 8 has a run time of about 1 hour and 25 minutes.

How is the second volume different from the first?

Well, for one, Matt told EW that he thinks “the biggest thing that’s going to happen is [the show is] going to open up a little bit.” He continued, “Not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”

Some of the show’s actors are also getting major camera time in volume 2, like Sadie Sink, who plays Max. “This is, in many ways, an anthemic season for Max and Sadie Sink,” Levy revealed to EW. “The fourth episode, without giving anything away regarding later episodes in volume 2, is a centerpiece episode for Max.”

Levy also mentioned that there are a lot of feels in the final two episodes, so prepare to break out the Kleenex, bb. “There’s so much talk already about the scale and scope and run time of season 4, but I, for one, love the fact that it’s also huge in heart and that’s always been the actual superpower of this show,” he said to EW. “If it were only spectacle, it wouldn’t be a global phenomenon with characters that we root for with such emotionality and heart. As big and cinematic as season 4 has gotten, and it will get further in volume 2, it delivers on that heart.”

Are there any trailers for it yet?

While you can always check out the original season 4 trailer to see some clips that haven’t happened in part 1 yet, Netflix also released a special teaser just for part 2 as part of Geeked Week.

It features Nancy, Steve, and Robin still in the Upside Down, Hopper staring at what might be a new monster, and even more scary moments that are definitely going to keep us at the edge of our seats. Check it out below:

    What about photos?!

Netflix finally released some brand-new photos just from the second part of the season, and while they don’t reveal too much, it does look like all hands will be on deck for whatever Vecna has planned next. Hopefully, Mike’s face means they’ve caught up with El. Meanwhile, the Russia crew has to find a way back to America while the Hawkins crew prepares for a big battle.

Okay, but is this the last season??

Not quite! But the sad news is that the show is indeed coming to an end with season 5. Luckily, we’re not there juuust yet, but if you’re already sad, Shawn does ease the wound a bit by leaving us with this: “Without giving anything away, everything happens for a reason on Stranger Things. It’s why we’re gonna end things after season 5 because it’s important to the [Duffer] brothers—and all of us who make the show with them—that we finish strong, stick the landing, and not tell one fragment of story more than has purpose. As you can see in season 4, we’re taking a lot of strands—strands of character, strands of plot, strands of mythology—and we are giving explanations and weaving those threads together.”

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Volume 2 Release Date, Episode Lengths and Everything We Know About the Super

Here's when you can watch the final episodes of Season 4 -- and how many episodes are left.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Volume 2 Release Date, Episode Lengths and Everything We Know About the Super-Sized Finale

That Volume 1 cliffhanger will leave you eager to binge Volume 2 ASAP

The long, long wait for “Stranger Things” Season 4 is finally over — well, at least for Volume 1. Netflix debuted the first seven episodes of Season 4 on May 27, nearly three years after Season 3 premiered, but for the first time in the series’ history, the new season will be split into two parts, which means fans will have to wait to see which beloved characters make it through the biggest season yet.

Season 4 isn’t just the first to get a two-part release, it’s also the longest by far with nine episodes that are all over an hour long. In fact, the shortest episode of the new season is longer than all but one of the series’ previous episodes!

However, once you binge your way through Volume 1, you’re definitely going to want to know when you can watch the rest. Read below for everything we know about the “Stranger Things” Season 4 Part 2 release date, episode lengths and more.

When Is the Season 4 Part 2 Release Date?

Volume 2 will release on Netflix on July 1, five weeks after the premiere of Volume 1, so you may want to pace yourself as you make your way through those first seven episodes.

How Many Episodes Are in Volume 2?

There are only two episodes in the second batch, compared to seven in the first. However, the finale is the longest episode in the series’ history.

“[Episodes] 7 and 9 in particular are movies,” Matt Duffer recently told TheWrap. “And 9 is a long movie.”

Speaking to the overall extended length of the season (and those extended episode runtimes), Matt Duffer said, “A lot of it had to do with the fact that we had characters spread out in three locations and we had a lot more plot. It must be quadruple the plot we had in Season 3… That was our fun blockbuster season.”

How Long Are the Episode Runtimes?

“Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 2 isn’t as long as Volume 1, but you’ve still got several hours to watch after you finish Volume 1.

Here are the exact runtimes for Episodes 8 and 9:

    Episode 8 – 1 hour, 25 minutes

    Episode 9 – 2 hours, 30 minutes

Netflix snuck a brief teaser for Season 4 Volume 2 after the end credits of Volume 1, and they finally released it online as a part of “Stranger Things” day at Geeked Week. Get a sneak peak at the final two episodes below.

Is Season 4 the Last Season?

Despite its epic proportions, Season 4 is not the final season of “Stranger Things.” Netflix renewed the series for a fifth and final season in Feb. 2022, ahead of the Season 4 release.

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for ‘Stranger Things,’” Matt and Ross Duffer said in the renewal announcement. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; Season 5 will be the last.”

However, that doesn’t mean Season 5 will be the last “Stranger Things” story fans see. In the same release, the Duffer Brothers also hinted at potential spinoffs down the line.

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things’; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the Duffer Brothers added. “But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”
