What does the Golden Egg do in Tribes of Midgard? The Golden Egg is a legendary rarity rune that has no specific way to be obtained.

Tip: The healthier the Seed of Yggdrasil, the more healing it gives to you and your tribe! ?

What Does the Golden Egg do in Tribes of Midgard?

To obtain the Golden Egg, your best bet is to play the game as you would, and you will eventually come across the drop.

As unhelpful and nonspecific that sounds, the Golden Egg has an unfathomably low drop rate from any enemy in the game. The bright side is that the Golden Egg is on every mob's loot table, the crappier side being the drop rate itself.

Runes in Tribes of Midgard are trinkets you can equip yourself with to gain powers, and it seems to equip the Golden Egg is all for the flex, seeing there is no power it gives you at the moment.

Alternately, if you find yourself wanting to get rid of the Golden Egg for whatever reason, you can trade it in for a hefty 200 Souls.

The best bet though is to hold on to it and have it for the fun of it, as future updates may include actual uses for the Golden Egg in Tribes of Midgard.

Some of the most useful items to bolster a Viking's success in combat in Tribes of Midgard are runes, but the mysterious Golden Egg Rune is causing a stir in the community. In Tribes of Midgard, players control Einherjar, a Viking hero who protects the Seed of Yggdrasil from vicious, fantastical enemies. Not unlike other games with a day/night cycle such as Minecraft, there are different things happening in the daytime versus the nighttime in Tribes of Midgard. During the daytime, players are tasked with exploring a procedurally generated world to collect resources. These resources are used for crafting new weapons, armor, and village defenses. At nighttime, enemies, including Jötunn bosses like Geirröðr, attack the player’s settlement to attempt to destroy the Seed of Yggdrasil. Players must collect the souls of enemies to sustain the seed’s life.

Weapons and items found throughout Tribes of Midgard will aid players in their quest for success. Runes are also beneficial during fights. They can be added to buff a player's stats or grant them new abilities. The Golden Egg Rune is one of the most elusive in the game, and there is only one way for players to get one. Here is how to get the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard, and what it’s for.

Runes in Tribes of Midgard operate much like runes in other fantasy games. Players can find runes using various methods and equip them to gain certain effects to gameplay. There are five tiers of runes in Tribes of Midgard corresponding to their rarity and usefulness.

By equipping one of the 30 runes available, players will gain special powers. Every class in Tribes of Midgard can use up to five runes at any one time, while the Warden class can use up to six runes if they choose the Rune Carver skill. Runes like Far-Fetched give players increased damage to distant enemies, with about a 20% bump in damage dealt. Legendary runes like Soul Mate will give players two Souls per hit given but lose four Souls per hit received. Managing runes in Tribes of Midgard can make or break a nighttime period, so it is important to choose a loadout wisely.

One of the rarest and most legendary runes, the Golden Egg rune, proves to be immensely elusive. The only way to reliably find the Golden Egg is through a random drop. There is no set method to finding the Golden Egg rune other than playing Tribes of Midgard and waiting to run across it. However, finding a Golden Egg rune is not a pertinent task. This is because the Golden Egg rune seemingly does nothing. The player does not gain any buffs and the game is not affected by the Golden Egg rune. The legendary rune does not have any effect on the survival game mechanics in Tribes of Midgard. It is possible that in future updates, the Golden Egg Rune’s purpose will be revealed. As of now, this Rune's purpose in Tribes of Midgard remains a mystery.

What is it about 2021 and Viking games that come out of nowhere and suddenly have the world's attention?

In February we had Valheim and now in the dying embers of July, we have Tribes of Midgard.

The similarities between the two games are there two, both have RPG elements, both are inspired by a more mythological telling of the Viking story, and both set you out into a world with little more than the clothes on your back and the most rudimentary of tools and weapons.

But that is all part of the fun, discovering a new world and how you and your merry (read: pillaging) band use the tools at your disposal to survive.

One of the first discoveries that has players scratching their heads in Tribes of Midgard is around the Golden Egg Rune.

Runes in the game are commonplace, they can help you fast travel, improve your baseline stats, increase your luck when looting and so on.

However, the Golden Egg Rune is different with conflicting views about what it might do or how you can use it.

What does the Golden Egg Rune do in Tribes of Midgard?

What exactly the Golden Egg does is not yet known. The game itself offers up detailed descriptions of every other rune discovered so far in the game, from the most common to those in the legendary bracket, but the Golden Egg is different.

Facts on the ground are scarce about the Golden Egg Rune but here is what we know for definite about what you can do with it.

The Golden Egg can be sold for 200 Souls.

Yip! That is it, so far, for confirmed uses. Souls are of course useful, being that they are the in-game currency used to buy and upgrade weapons, armour and your village but whether this is a great deal or you or selling Rune more useful for a use unknown, has yet to be determined.

Rumours abound about what the Golden Egg's true purpose may be with some claiming that possessing it increases the chance of Roosters of Ragnarok's spawning.

These monsters are a special foe, as they can drop event fragments when defeated.

How to find the Golden Egg Rune in Tribes of Midgard

Finding the Golden Egg is perhaps easier than working out exactly what it does. As you can see in the description above, it is found in the wild and while that is true, it isn't the only way you can get your hands on one.

One way is by defeating enemies. Almost any monster found in Tribes of Midgard can drop a Golden Egg in the floor loot. Kill enough and you will surely come to have one in your possession.

Defeating monsters can earn you a Golden Egg Rune. (Picture: Norsfell Games)

A more fool-proof way is by exchanging Golden Horns for a Golden Egg.

To do so, head to the village's Golden Altar with a batch of Golden Horns. Horns are often dropped by Giants and Raid bosses if you don't quite have enough.

Once you do, exchange them for a Golden Egg... and I guess look at it?
