What does that cloud with lines under it on my phone mean?

    27 September 2018

At some point between being jolted awake by your alarm and stepping out your front door, you glance at your phone to check the weather.

Some days, you’ll see a cloud and you’ll know it’s going to be cloudy. Other days, you’ll see a sun and you’ll know it’ll be sunny. More often you’ll see a dark cloud with raindrops and you’ll remember you live in Britain.

Occasionally, you’ll see a symbol you don’t recognise, so what do these runes predict for your day?

Well, the cloud with the two horizontal lines under it means it’s going to be foggy. If you drive to work, then allow more time for your journey, use fog lights when appropriate and pay extra attention on the road.

If you see a wavy, inverted pyramid it means there’s going to be a tornado. We’d recommend listening out for advice from the emergency services and not driving. You’re not in Kennington any more.

With all the tumultuous weather that we have been experiencing recently, you may be finding yourself checking your smartphone’s weather app a lot more than usual.

We all love to take a screenshot of the weekly weather on our weather app during a heatwave or when we are going on holiday to a tropical haven to show our friends the continuous days of sunshine we will be basking under.

There are several basic symbols which tell you about the changing weather, especially if a storm or snow is approaching, as we have experienced recently.

These days, most people refer to modern devices like smartphones, tablets, and other gadgets for such information.

However, there are different symbols on your smartphone’s weather app that specify different meanings.

One symbol that may cloud your judgement (no pun intended) may be the symbol that shows a cloud with two lines.

This can be found on Apple iOS weather apps and its meaning has caused confusion on various forums.

We try to clear this up so that you won’t need to look at your weather app and not know what this symbol means.
