‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Volume 1 Hype Trailer

The last time we saw our favorite Hawkins residents, they’d gone their separate ways following the Battle of Starcourt. When we pick up six months later, our heroes Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) must figure out how to put an end to the Upside Down while also navigating the ups and downs of high school. But the action isn’t confined to Hawkins, with drama unfolding in Russia, California and elsewhere. Hey, no one said it was easy being a demon slayer.

'Stranger Things' Season 4 Volume 2 Release Date, News, Spoilers and Cast

Here's everything we know about season 4 part 2 of Netflix's supernatural thriller Stranger Things, set to drop in July.

Wait, Season 4 Isn't Over Yet?

No, dummies! Here's everything we know about season 4 part 2, set to drop in July.

Take a deep breath: That Stranger Things episode 7 ending wasn’t, y’know, The End. We promise. Snatching a page from the Ozark playbook, Netflix’s deliriously anticipated thriller Stranger Things is stretching its fourth season into two parts—sorry, volumes—which means fans will have to wait a teensy bit longer for the final, actual, we-mean-it-this-time ending.

Perhaps even more confusingly, the seasonal split is lopsided. Volume 1, out as of May 27, features seven episodes, but volume 2 will feature only two. But each of those two episodes will be, as one Jason Bateman once put it, “super sized”—more like feature films than traditional television. (We can all stick around after the credits roll and argue if “television that’s more like film” is really a good idea.) As Netflix attempts to squeeze some juice out of its cash cow, here’s what we know about the next chapter.

When does season 4 volume 2 come out?

Okay, so don’t shoot the messenger, but it’s gonna be a painful wait. The final two episodes are expected to drop at 12 a.m. PST on July 1, just in time for a Fourth of July weekend binge. Bad news: Those five weeks between May 27 and July 1 are going to pass slowly. Good news: More time for theorizing!

How long will volume 2 be? How many episodes?

Prepare for an, er, extended binge. Volume 2 might consist of only two episodes, but they're each feature-length: Episode 8 clocks in at 1 hour and 25 minutes, while the grand finale runs 2 hours and 30 minutes. So, not as long as The Batman, but still really long!

Wait, so how does this work again?

Let's break it down simply. The following episodes premiered at the same time on May 27:

Episode 1: “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club” (runs 1 hour and 16 minutes)

Episode 2: “Chapter Two: Vecna's Curse” (runs 1 hour and 15 minutes)

Episode 3: “Chapter Three: The Monster and the Superhero” (runs 1 hour and 3 minutes)

Episode 4: “Chapter Four: Dear Billy” (runs 1 hour and 17 minutes)

Episode 5: “Chapter Five: The Nina Project” (runs 1 hour and 14 minutes)

Episode 6: “Chapter Six: The Dive” (runs 1 hour and 13 minutes)

Episode 7: “Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab” (runs 1 hour and 39 minutes)

And then the remaining episodes premiere at the same time on July 1:

Episode 8: “Chapter Eight: Papa” (runs 1 hour and 25 minutes)

Episode 9: “Chapter Nine: The Piggyback” (runs 2 hours and 30 minutes)

    Why do this to us??

Apparently, the Duffer brothers—the masterminds behind Stranger Things—felt it was warranted. “Episode 7 is as big as any season finale we’ve ever had, so it made sense to everyone involved to split the season there,” they told Variety in a joint email interview. “Episode 7 really serves as the end of the second act—and we feel that our final act had enough meat on the bone to make up Volume 2.”

As for why a split was warranted in the first place: “As we began turning over episodes, everyone began to feel the season was too big to be released in one batch—at nearly 13 hours, it is really more two seasons than one. We discussed various release options with Ted [Sarandos, Netflix’s CEO], and early on he proposed the two volume split, which would allow us to break up the season while also staying true to Netflix’s binge model.”

In other words, blame Ted Sarandos!

    Is there a trailer yet?

Netflix released a sneak peek on June 9, flashing scenes of what’s to come in volume 2. Over the montage is a voiceover of Vecna taunting Eleven: “It is over, Eleven, you have freed me,” he says. “You can’t stop this now.” We’re thinking a big showdown is due in the upcoming episodes.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Netflix then released a bunch of first-look photos on June 14, teasing the final two episodes. Scenes include the kids scheming in Hawkins, Eleven with Dr. Brenner, and Hopper, Joyce, Murray, and Dmitri teaming up for what looks like a standoff. Scroll through the stills below.

SEASON 4: THE STORY SO FAR [SPOILERS]

Season 4 of Stranger Things finally blasted its way onto Netflix on May 27th, 2022, almost three years after season 3 aired.

Six months have passed since the Battle of Starcourt Mall and the show’s group of friends find themselves separated for the first time, with Eleven finding life especially challenging as she suffers through high school in California.

With spring break approaching, the gang are looking forward to reuniting once again but a new and horrifying threat emerges, presenting our young heroes with a chance to end the horrors of the Upside Down for good.

That threat is the deadly being known as Vecna who goes on a killing spree in Hawkins with the gang left scrambling to piece together the mystery of the creature’s origins.

With Eleven still struggling to use her powers after her encounter with the Mind Flayer, she makes the bold decision to return to Dr Brenner, the man responsible for running Hawkins Lab in an effort to regain her abilities.

During a fresh batch of experimentation, Eleven relives her past and learns that it wasn’t her who committed the massacre at the lab all those years ago but the orderly she believed to be Peter Ballard.

As episode 7 reveals, Peter’s real identity is Henry Creel and it was he who committed the atrocity and then turned on El when she refused to help, resulting in an epic showdown that ended with Henry being sent to the Upside Down where he was transformed into the creature Vecna.

HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4, VOLUME 2?

Volume 2 of Stranger Things season 4 will consist of just two episodes.

That’s right, while the season as a whole is made up of nine episodes, Netflix has decided to split the episodes into two volumes, giving fans seven chapters in the first part and just two in the second.

After the first seven episodes arrived on May 27th, the second volume of season 4 will be released on Friday, July 1st, so fans don’t have to wait too long.

To make up for the bizarre release schedule, the episodes in season 4 will be the longest the show has seen to date.

Speaking in a letter to fans that was released on social media back in February, Stranger Things’ co-creators the Duffer Brothers revealed that season 4 will have “a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season.”

Ahead of the release of season 4, the runtimes of each episode were revealed, with some of the episodes running as long as full-length feature films:

    Part 1 – May 27th:Episode 1 – The Hellfire Club | 1 hour 16 minutesEpisode 2 – Vecna’s Curse | 1 hour 15 minutesEpisode 3 – The Monster and the Superhero | 1 hour 3 minutesEpisode 4 – Dear Billy | 1 hour 17 minutesEpisode 5 – The Nina Project | 1 hour 14 minutesEpisode 6 – The Dive | 1 hour 13 minutesEpisode 7 – The Massacre at Hawkins Lab | 1 hour 38 minutes Part 2 – July 1st: Episode 8 – Papa | 1 hour 25 minutesEpisode 9 – The Piggyback | 2 hours 30 minutes

IS STRANGER THINGS 4 THE FINAL SEASON?

No, Stranger Things fans will be delighted to know that season 4 will not be the final instalment of the much-loved series.

In February 2022, it was announced that the sci-fi horror series will be returning for a fifth season.

However, while a fifth instalment has been confirmed, it was also revealed that season 5 would also be the final chapter, bringing an end to Stranger Things.

Speaking in the aforementioned letter to fans, the Duffer brothers revealed the plan was to have the show run for “four or five seasons” but the story proved “too large to tell in four.”

The co-creators definitively confirmed in their letter that “season 5 will be the last.”

Season 4 of Stranger Things will premiere on Netflix on Friday, May 27th, 2022.

In other news, Bastard: Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy season 1 part 2 will release in 2022
