Back in the 80s, teen stars were all the rage, and thanks largely to John Hughes movies, names like Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall became major stars during the decade. The teen movies of the 80s are the stuff of legend, and long before he was an Oscar winner, Nicolas Cage appeared in one of the decade's best movies.

Cage, who landed a role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, had a small role in the movie, and his time on set wound up being rather unpleasant. Despite the bad time he had, Cage still pursued his dreams and became a star.

So, why was Nicolas Cage bullied on the set of Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Let's take a look and see.

Nic Cage Is A Hollywood Legend

After breaking out in the 80s and then reaching another level in the 90s and beyond, Nicolas Cage is a performer who hardly needs an introduction. The man has been in the game for decades now, and his body of work and his credits are as impressive as it gets in Hollywood.

Cage was not an instant star in the business, but over time, he would get opportunities to showcase his abilities. This led to the actor appearing in hit projects and gaining critical acclaim through the years. Sure, some people have noticed that Cage basically goes 100% at all times while the cameras are rolling, but there is no denying that he loves his craft and is always looking to deliver a performance.

During his time in Hollywood, Nicolas Cage has been nominated for two Academy Awards, and he took home the Oscar for Best Actor back in 1996 for Leaving Las Vegas. The man has done it all, and early on in his career, he was taking smaller roles while looking to build up his name value.

He Appeared In 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High'

In what has become one of the most talked-about pieces of 80s movie trivia, Nicolas Cage, long before he was a major star, appeared in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Never noticed him in the movie? Well, his appearance came in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it fashion.

Cage can be seen a few times in the movie, though most noticeably as a fry cook at All American Burger. He pops his head up to see what's going on at the counter, and once you notice him in the movie, you'll never miss him again. The actor had actually auditioned for a larger role in the movie, but he was unable to get the gig.

According to Cage, "I must have auditioned for the Judge Reinhold part 10 or 11 times. I was underage, so I couldn’t get it because I couldn’t work as many hours."

Even though Cage was not able to land the role of Brad in the movie, he was still able to get a little bit of time on screen in the classic film.

The experience overall was not a good one for Cage, and he had a terrible time on set. Unfortunately, one thing that definitely worked to his advantage was something that ultimately got him bullied by others.

    He Was Teased On Set

So, why was Nicolas Cage teased by other cast members while working on Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Simple. The actor comes from the Coppola family tree and was still using the last name to get opportunities in Hollywood. That's right, Nic Cage is a Coppola and is about as well-connected as it gets in the world of acting.

When speaking to EW about his time in the movie, Cage said, "I would watch [Sean Penn] and try to get ideas. I was pretty much the nerd to everybody — people would ask me to be removed from their eye line. I was the brunt of jokes because my name was still Coppola, so there’d be a congregation outside my trailer quoting lines from Apocalypse Now, like, ‘I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning.'"

A cheesy joke, sure, but Cage was able to play things off well enough back when he was on set of that film. Cage, much like other members of the Coppola family, definitely had the benefit of nepotism on his side. Eventually, he started going by Cage and was able to start landing much larger roles.
