Actor Neil Patrick Harris has been under social media scrutiny recently following a photo that surfaced from a party he had in 2011 during a Halloween party where he had a cake about singer Amy Winehouse who had died a few months before.
The internet remembers
11 years ago, Neil Patrick Harris had a Halloween party where he had a cake that read "The Corpse of Amy Winehouse", there was a photo that was immediately deleted, but now has resurfaced.
The photo was posted by Justin Mikita, where there was a corpse lookalike of the recently deceased soul singer where she seemed decomposed and with her mouth openly destroyed.
When the photo resurfaced it quickly went viral
A writer by the name of Ashley Reed posted the screenshot of the tweet before it was eliminated and it went viral instantly, the post quoted "I cannot believe how many very online people over the age of 25 are just now finding out about Neil Patrick Harris's disgusting Amy Winehouse cake,"
"Yea Neil Patrick Harris quite literally had a cake mimicking Amy Winehouse's corpse for Halloween soon after she died. I've loathed that man ever since," she continued on Twitter.

Twitter was full of opinions
"Yeah I had no idea he did this grotesque thing til the other day and I just have no f - - king respect for that person anymore,". A user commented
Another one added "Society is way overdue for a discussion about the way Amy Winehouse was treated in the early 2000s and 2010s by the misogynistic celebrity media machine and the people who were a captive audience to it. Neil Patrick Harris' f - - ked up corpse cake is just the tip of the iceberg."
A cake critic also weighed in "What is wrong with Neil Patrick Harris?
That's so disturbing," "I can no longer enjoy a 'Series of Unfortunate Events' on @netflix, and any of his further projects, because I just found out Neil Patrick Harris commissioned a cake of Amy Winehouse's corpse for a Halloween party. Subhuman behavior,"
It set Reddit on fire
Right after, the picture went to Reddit and users were not shy to show their disapproval of the actor's dessert choices, they even created a subreddit about it.

There was another redditer that wrote, "Wtf I wasn't expecting the cake to be that graphic, this is so sick." Another Reddit user chimed in: "WOW. This is so wildly inappropriate. My jaw dropped."
"What in the actual f - - k!? I can't believe I had no idea and I LOVE celebrity gossip. This is absolutely vile," a user noted. "I'm literally nauseous right now after viewing that. So wrong and in poor taste," another one commented.

The accompanying photograph appeared to be a gruesome depiction of a female corpse with long black hair, and a cigarette coming out of its mouth.
It was a cake and a note beside the edible monstrosity said: “The corpse of Amy Winehouse.”
The tweet was deleted shortly after it was shared but people still managed to nab screenshots.

AMY WINEHOUSE MET AN UNTIMELY DEATH
News of Amy Winehouse’s death emerged three months before NPH’s Halloween incident, on July 23rd, 2011, devastating millions of fans across the world – she was only 27.
A subsequent inquest determined alcohol poisoning to be responsible for her passing.
Winehouse was widely adored, but she lived a troubled life and battled ferociously with addiction.
Winehouse was open about her struggles and spoke about self-harm, depression, and eating disorders in interviews, as well as her relationship with drugs and alcohol.
Back in 2011, these topics of conversation were taboo – more so than they are today – and fans commended Winehouse for sharing her experience as it couldn’t have been easy.
This is why people were so disgusted over the insensitive depiction of Winehouse, as it used her life and death as a joke.

SOCIAL MEDIA USERS ARE SICKENED BY NPH’S AMY WINEHOUSE CAKE
On May 10th, 2022, Twitter user Ashley Reese shared to the platform: “I cannot believe how many very online people over the age of 25 are just now finding out about Neil Patrick Harris’s disgusting Amy Winehouse cake…
“Yeah Neil Patrick Harris quite literally had a cake mimicking Amy Winehouse’s corpse for Halloween soon after she died. I’ve loathed that man ever since.”
These tweets went viral and more and more people became aware of the party joke NPH made at the expense of Winehouse.

I will never watch anything you are remotely associated with. I thought the Amy Winehouse thing sounded bad til I actually saw it. What a sick person you are. But you’re a compassionate liberal right? All will be forgotten.

Judging by Neil Patrick Harris’ Amy Winehouse Halloween fiasco, perhaps he could’ve benefited from a quick Google search on appropriate and appetizing foods to have your personal chefs make for your Halloween party.

My 18 year old son died of an accidental overdose. I can’t imagine the additional pain you have caused Amy Winehouse’s parents. Disgusting.

Just saw the Amy Winehouse Halloween party photo and article. I am a comedian and comedy writer & I CANNOT FATHOM how any decent human being would find it funny or even macbre Halloween fun. I realize this was years ago & resurfacing again , but seriously …issue an APOLOGY

So was nobody going to say that @ActuallyNPH not only had a cake made of Amy Winehouse's body after she died, but that the cake was called, 'The Corpse of Amy Winehouse' and had 'beef ribs, pulled pork, chicken sausage in a spicy BBQ sauce'?

Did you know that Neil Patrick Harris’ 2011 Halloween party featured a likeness of Amy Winehouse’s corpse, just three months after her tragic death?

This cursed factoid seems to pop up every few years (months?) online. Earlier this week, a viral tweet from writer Ashley Reese, about “how many very online people over the age of 25” are finding out about this, restarted the cycle of discovery. (Warning: Someone included an image in the thread.)
“I’m not understanding why the cake is this graphic?” replied @yagirlElBell.

Oh No They Didn’t reported on the “artificial corpse” (photo included) in November 2011, just after the Halloween party. (Winehouse died in July 2011.) The photo is horrific, but it doesn’t really look like a cake. It was apparently worse: A handwritten card next to the display reads “The Corpse of Amy Winehouse,” which includes “beef ribs, pulled pork, chicken sausage in a spicy BBQ sauce.”
According to ONTD, the quickly deleted photo was originally posted to Twitter by Justin Mikita, now-husband of Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The party was thrown by Harris and husband David Burtka, who host yearly Halloween bashes with themed food. There’s a Flickr set featuring “zombie mermaid”-themed photos from Harris and Burtka’s 2011 party, but no photos of the food.
This fact traveled to another gossip forum, the Deuxmoi subreddit, where a majority of commenters did not know about this tasteless moment in celebrity Halloween party history. The majority of people replying to Reese’s tweet were also apparently in the dark.
Another clueless NPH moment was brought back up this week: Him not knowing who Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom was at the 2018 Tonys, or that they’ve met, or that her husband literally wrote for How I Met Your Mother. Harris later apologized.
We’ve reached out for comment. Harris teased new Netflix series Uncoupled last week.
