is an American cryptozoology-themed reality television series airing on Travel Channel. It originally premiered on June 22, 2013 on Destination America. The series follows the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (A.I.M.S.) team, a band of seven native West Virginian hunters and trappers, as they research and track unidentified creatures in the Appalachian Mountains. There is also a side-series titled that features extra facts and never-before-seen footage from different episodes of the series.
The series aired for five seasons on Destination America.[2] After an 18-month hiatus, it was announced that the series was renewed for a sixth season and would be moving to Travel Channel.[3]
In 2021 it was announced that a TV special titled would premiere on January 3, 2021. It was also announced that the seventh season will premiere on January 10, 2021.[4] It was announced shortly after the premiere of Season 7, that new episodes would only release exclusively on the Discovery+ streaming platform for the rest of the season.[5]
The official Mountain Monsters Instagram account revealed on December 10, 2021 that an eighth season would premiere in January 2022.[6]

Premise[edit]
The A.I.M.S. team is a self-styled, cryptozoology research team founded by West Virginians John "Trapper" Tice, Jeff Headlee, and Willy McQuillian. Their goal is to prove the existence of mysterious creatures such as Bigfoot, Wampus cat, Werewolf, Hellhound, Lizard Man, and Mothman. The episodes normally begin with Trapper, Jeff, Huckleberry, and Buck discussing the specific creature they are hunting on the way to the location where the creature was spotted. They then meet with eyewitnesses who have encountered the creature, giving the team an idea of where to conduct an initial night investigation to find evidence of the creature being in the area.
After concluding their initial night hunt, Willy and Wild Bill begin work on a trap to contain the creature while the rest of the team searches for more evidence, meeting with additional eyewitnesses who normally possess photographic, video, or audio evidence of the creature. After testing the completed trap the team begins the final night hunt.
The creatures are, supposedly, occasionally caught on camera, such as the Cave Creature, Chupacabra, Wildman (Bigfoot), Waya Woman and Smoke Wolf's eyes. They are also shown as a digital rendering that appears before and after commercial breaks. The team attempts to capture these creatures (with Hogzilla, three Devil Dogs and two wolves from the Tygart Valley being their most recent trapped creatures). In some instances, the team places trail cameras and/or infrared camcorders near the trap to capture photographic evidence of the creature in question. They have caught fleeting, blurry images of what they claim to be the Grassman, Shadow Creature, Cherokee Death Cat, Black Wolf and the Bigfoot from the Tygart Valley on camera, to name but a few. More recently a recurring rogue team has spied on and sabotaged the A.I.M.S. team and their investigations. But the Rogue Team did not have much involvement in the show's 6th season, which focused more on the team hunting monsters like in the earlier seasons.
As of the 7th season, Trapper has passed on, and the rest of the team continues to hunt creatures in his legacy.

Yes, like everyone else, I dearly LOVE this show and have watched since the very beginning. My adult son also. We've been watching reruns on Discover+ while we wait for new episodes. I've seen a lot of the negative comments from the naysayers, but my answer to them is if you don't like it just don't watch it! All us fans will keep waiting for new episodes. And we love the whole AIMS team and the way they work together to continue the hunts. We love how they continue to keep Trapper alive and honor his life and leadership. Hopefully they will bring Trapper's daughter back in, as they have. Also, KUDOs to Colt Straub and his team! Keep it up, guys. AND HURRY UP with new seasons! Thank you, thank you!

I love Mountain Monsters! The best comedy out there! I laughed and cried. The hillbillies must come back for a season 9, 10 11, and 12. I don't like the fact that the " rookie " Bick is the defacto leader. It should be 1 of the other 3. Anyone remember Bucks " fainting " after seeing the Mothman's eyes? Hilarious! I can act better than that, however sometimes it's so bad it's so funny! Finding Bigfoot never found squat, I mean squatch. AIMS team finds Bigfoot even when they are looking for another type of crypto creature. I'm sure when they caught the pig, it was really just 1 of [censored]s pigs. I miss the show and want more seasons. They should add another character. Discovery, if you're listening I have some good script ideas. Also, you may want to buy Finding Bigfoot and add all new characters or don't buy, and just call it something else.

Well I'm not sure but I have a gut feeling they are taking for next season already! It takes some time to make just one episode! I just hope we won't have to wait for January again!

What Is Mountain Monsters About?
There are creatures both legendary and unidentified roaming the Appalachian Mountains, and a band of hard-core hunters and trappers have made it their life’s work to investigate them. For generations, supposed sightings of these monsters — with such names as Wolfman, Devil Dog, Wampus Beast, Mothman and Lizard Demon — have occurred along the 1,500-mile stretch of mountains, and it wasn’t until the members of the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings had their own personal encounters with these creatures that they became believers. Now, the AIMS crew, led by founders “Trapper” John Tice, Jeff Headlee and Willy McQuillian, use both traditional techniques and modern technology to track, trap and capture these monsters. Maybe AIMS will snag its first one while cameras are filming “Mountain Monsters”!
ONE LAST HOORAH FOR TRAPPER!
THE APPALACHIAN INVESTIGATORS OF MYSTERIOUS SIGHTINGS TEAM HONORS THEIR BELOVED LEADER JOHN ‘TRAPPER’ TICE IN NEW ONE-HOUR SPECIAL, ‘MOUNTAIN MONSTERS: A TRIBUTE TO TRAPPER,’ ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 3 AT 10 P.M. ET/PT
SEASON FIVE OF ‘MOUNTAIN MONSTERS’ CONTINUES TRAPPER’S LEGACY ON A NEW WILD ADVENTURE BEGINNING ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 10 AT 10 P.M. ET/PT
John Tice, affectionally known as “Trapper,” was the founder and leader of the Appalachian Investigations of Mysterious Sightings team (AIMS) that gave rise to the cult-classic series “Mountain Monster.” Sadly, Trapper passed away in December 2019, after a prolonged illness. “Mountain Monsters: A Tribute to Trapper,” premiering on Sunday, January 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, pays tribute to Tice, with the AIMS team sharing their favorite memories and moments with him over the years as they investigated cryptids throughout the woods of Appalachia.
The surviving members meet up for the first time after Trapper’s passing to discuss the team’s future and embark on adventures during seven one-hour episodes and a two-hour season finale of Season Five of “Mountain Monsters,” premiering on Sunday, January 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The AIMS team reads a personal letter from Trapper and heads out on a brand new adventure that he set up for them before he passed. Equipped with his personal journal filled with everything he ever learned about the woods, the team travels to the mountains of the Tygart Valley on a mission to prove that there are still wolves in West Virginia. A bounty put on them, and the last wolf was said to have been killed in 1900. The team encounters local farmers who tell of a dangerous predator that has been killing their livestock. The team soon believes that not only are there wolves in the Tygart Valley, but there is something much more mysterious and deadly.
“After the tragic loss of Trapper, we recognized the importance of finding a way to celebrate his life with our AIMS-obsessed fans and then continue his mission,” says Matthew Butler, general manager, Travel Channel. “What makes the new season so special is that the squad was eager to carry on Trapper’s legacy and head back to the forest, set on following his life’s work including intense hunts, thrilling twists and hillbilly hilarity.”
Throughout the season, the team learns from locals of massive K9 cryptids with glowing red eyes that inhabit the land and are known by locals as Smoke Wolves. As they dig deeper, they realize that Trapper in fact knew about these creatures back in the 1970s. The team spends time trying to figure out if this is what Trapper meant about the wolves of West Virginia. Then, to add to the monster fun, the team realizes there is a Bigfoot lurking, terrorizing the area as well.
By the end of the season, the team understands why Trapper sent them to the Tygart Valley. They come full circle as Trapper’s daughter is filled in on their incredible findings. And Huckleberry has a Bigfoot surprise for the ages in a twist ending no one sees coming.
