    Stranger Things volume 2 trailer

Stranger Things season 4 volume one left Eleven, Will, Mike and the team on a cliffhanger. But when does part two arrive and what happens to Vecna?

Stranger Things season four spoilers follow.

The beginning of the end of Stranger Things has finally landed with an absolutely jam-packed season four. And the best bit? It's not even over yet.

In fact, we're only two-thirds of the way through (or one 'volume' depending on who you ask) and now we're flipping ourselves upside down as we impatiently wait for the final two episodes to drop.

Thankfully, compared to the painful three years it took for Stranger Things season four to appear back on our screens, this time it's returning within a comparative blink of an eye.

But we have to be careful what we wish for, because it comes with a catch.

Here's everything you need to know about the new season.

    NETFLIX

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 release date: When is it on?

Stranger Things part four volume two will launch on July 1, 2022 – just six weeks after the mid-season finale.

It's also a bit different in structure to the first half, coming in at only two episodes in length.

But boy, are they going to be massive. It's been confirmed that the penultimate episode is going to clock in at 85 minutes in length, while the finale is going to be a staggering two-and-a-half hours long.

That's enough to make Marvel wince.

So get cosy, cook a mountain of Eggos and get ready to watch an episode so long it would make Christopher Nolan blush.

Whatever happens will pave the way to the upcoming confirmed season five – which is also the last in the series as the Hawkins adventures finally come to a conclusion.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 trailer: Is there any footage yet?

Why yes there is! Netflix dropped a new trailer for volume two on Tuesday, June 21.

"I know you're afraid," whispers Dr Brenner (who still hasn't explained how he survived death by demogorgon in season one, by the way, don't think we hadn't noticed), "You're terribly frightened by what you've seen," he mutters.

Well yes, Marty, yes we are. It's kind of the point.

So begins the trailer for season four volume two, which, to the epic and inevitable strains of Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill', teases the titanic struggle ahead for Eleven and her pals as evil mind-warper Vecna tries to take Hawkins (and the world?).

From the looks of it, Eleven will soon depart the underground laboratory – sooner than Brenner would like her to ("You're not ready") – because her friends in Hawkins are in trouble and can't fight Vecna alone. (Strong "You are not ready to face Darth Vader" vibes with this one, we are getting.)

As the trailer plays out, they team are all getting tooled up: Sadie Sink's Max has her trusty Walkman, while Eddie's (Joseph Quinn) own personal Excalibur appears to be his metal guitar, which would seem appropriate, if not very useful. Nancy's (Natalia Dyer) got an actual shotgun, Hop (David Harbour) has an Uzi, and it seems Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) only needs to use his sledgehammer fists, at least when it comes to battering his former jock buddies into jam.

But king of them all is surely Murray (Brett Gelman), newly equipped with a Massive Effing Flamethrower.

The thrilling edit of all this action concludes with an enormous fireball dwarfing the tiny figure (El?) in front of it as Vecna taunts that "Your friends… have lost."

Something tells us that Vecna is a little premature with that claim, and that the newly re-powered Eleven will do her Freddie-Mercury-hand-gesture/scream combo and inflict some serious psychic damage before the day is out. We'll find out on July 1...

Naturally, it doesn't give much away, except we know that Hopper and Joyce's adventures in Russia will result in them discovering a secret hold of alien-like creatures in tanks.

Then in a rush of flashing images, we see all of the main gang in mortal danger as they explore the Creel House and the Upside Down... so whether their fates are sealed or not remains to be seen.

Only a couple more weeks for us to discover what happens next, and what it all means.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 cast: Who will be in it?

As it stands, all the major players are due to continue their efforts to stop Vecna and close the Upside Down for good.

This includes stars Millie Bobby Brown (who plays Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Noah Schnapp (Will) and Sadie Sink (Max).

Stranger Things season four has officially landed on Netflix, and naturally we're already looking ahead to more instalments of the blockbuster sci-fi drama. Series four volume one dropped last Friday (27th May), while volume two is coming to Netflix on 1st July.

And if that's still not enough (of course it isn't), there's already plenty of talk about Stranger Things season five. The show's creators have confirmed that a fifth series of ST *is* happening, but that it will sadly be the show's last. Here's everything we know about season five so far...

What will happen in Stranger Things season 5?

With season four volume two still yet to be released, we'll have to wait a little while before we get a full picture of what might happen in season five. Still, The Duffer Brothers have revealed one key detail about the next season: that it will likely feature a time jump from season four.

"We learn a lot every time we make a [season]," Matt Duffer told TVLine. "We've learned a lot just working with all of our new actors and the ones that we've worked with for a long time over this year [making season 4], so I'm sure it'll change a little bit from that outline."

He continued, "I'm sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we'd have shot [seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that. So these are all discussions we're going to have with our writers when we start the room up. Believe it or not, we're still working on season 4. We’re trying to finish the final two episodes, they’re so massive."

Previously, the brothers also teased "more exciting stories" to come from the Stranger Things universe, while also nodding towards what we can expect to happen in the fifth series.

In their S5 announcement statement, the creators wrote: "There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down."

Elsewhere, the creators teased details on the season five finale, telling SFX, "We know what the ending is."

Matt Duffer went on, "It's conceivable that it changes but I think it's unlikely because it's one of those endings that just feels, and has always felt, right. And it also feels sort of inevitable. Then when you come up with it, you're like, 'oh yeah well, that is absolutely what is has to be.'"

When was Stranger Things season 5 confirmed?

The Stranger Things creators confirmed that season five is indeed going ahead, in an open letter to fans published via Netflix in February. However, they also announced that series five would unfortunately mark the end of Stranger Things.

    NETFLIX

Ahead of season four's release, they wrote: "Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last."

Hey, all good things must come to an end and all that, right?

Netflix also appeared to hint towards the show's final season with an upside down (geddit?) sign reading, "Every ending has a beginning." Cryptic.

Who might star in Stranger Things season 5?

We'd expect all of our favourite Stranger Things cast members to be back on our screens for season five - providing that they're still alive at the end of season four, that is.

If everyone's alive and well, that'll include Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Noah Schnapp (Will), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Sadie Sink (Max), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Joe Keery (Steve), Priah Ferguson (Erica) and Winona Ryder (Joyce).

Fans are also hoping some of the new season four characters will return, like Eduardo Franco as Argyle (but maybe not Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna.)

If you've found yourself back on the Stranger Things hype train after the much-delayed Season Four, then you might not want to read what we're about to drop here. In an open letter to Stranger Things fans via The Hollywood Reporter, the creators behind the series, Matt and Ross Duffer, revealed that Season Five would be its last. “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things, they wrote. "At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale.”

    The 'Stranger Things' Finale Explained

Don't worry, Stranger Things heads—there's still anywhere from 80 to 120 hours of Stranger Things left, depending on how many volumes the brothers divvy Season Five up into. (That's a joke.)

Here's everything we know about Season Five of Stranger Things so far.

When Will Season Five of Stranger Things Release?

Considering that nearly three years passed between the debuts of the third and fourth seasons—which was partially due to the pandemic—you have to wonder if Stranger Things won't return until 2023. If the Duffer Brothers are planning anything remotely close to the scale of Season Four, it'll most definitely take a while to film.

What Will Happen in Season Five of Stranger Things?

Well, obviously we can't go too crazy with this one as we're still awaiting the second half of Season Four. We don't even know if our man Steve will make it out alive. One thing that might be safe to speculate? Which force(s) in the Upside Down the remnants of the Stranger Things crew will have to battle. Keep in mind that the Mind Flayer is still technically in the Upside Down, likely plotting its next move during the events of Season Four. But was the faceless Mind Flayer ever a compelling villain? After the Duffer Brothers spent an enormous amount of time building up a brand-new villain in Vecna during Volume One, it's worth speculating that they could change plans.

Even the actor behind Vecna, Jamie Campbell Bower, seemingly confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the baddie will return in the fifth season. "Let me put it this way: I know about Season Five. Take from that what you will," Campbell said, even teasing how Vecna will change over the coming episodes. "I think what you will see is more of the human aspect of Vecna," he added. Let me say that much. And there’s a huge, great, cool thing—I need to keep my mouth closed!—but there’s a huge, great, cool thing you see as well! You still witness a bit more of an evolution—quite a bit more of an evolution, particularly for Vecna and Henry to Vecna.

Now, begin your prayer circles, so that none of your favorite characters will die at the monstrous hands of Vecna. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Volume Two. Brace yourselves for the horror, people.
