Luckily, the waiting won’t be in vain because Shawn Levy, the show’s director, teased that there’s still lots more to come. “I’ll just tell you, as great as volume 1 is, volume 2 is extraordinary,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I can’t wait for the world to react to volume 1, knowing that they have such rich episodes to come in just over a month.”
So let’s breathe a collective sigh of relief that our fave show is coming back v soon, and in the meantime, we’ll get into every single thing there is to know about season 4 volume 2. Shall we? We shall!

So, when does volume 2 come out?
The second installment of Stranger Things season 4 comes out on July 1. Yep! So mark your calendars and prepare to binge!
How many episodes will volume 2 have?
The entire season is made up of nine episodes. Seven episodes premiered in the first volume on May 27, while volume 2 will have only two episodes that ultimately finish the story.
If you’re concerned about the episode split—it’s fine, we were too—not to worry! Just because there are fewer episodes in the second volume doesn’t mean they’re not filled to the brim with action. Episode 9, for example, is “a long movie”—like, we’re talking nearly 2.5 hours long, according to what producer Matt Duffer told The Wrap. Episode 8 has a run time of about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
How is the second volume different from the first?
Well, for one, Matt told EW that he thinks “the biggest thing that’s going to happen is [the show is] going to open up a little bit.” He continued, “Not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”

Some of the show’s actors are also getting major camera time in volume 2, like Sadie Sink, who plays Max. “This is, in many ways, an anthemic season for Max and Sadie Sink,” Levy revealed to EW. “The fourth episode, without giving anything away regarding later episodes in volume 2, is a centerpiece episode for Max.”

Levy also mentioned that there are a lot of feels in the final two episodes, so prepare to break out the Kleenex, bb. “There’s so much talk already about the scale and scope and run time of season 4, but I, for one, love the fact that it’s also huge in heart and that’s always been the actual superpower of this show,” he said to EW. “If it were only spectacle, it wouldn’t be a global phenomenon with characters that we root for with such emotionality and heart. As big and cinematic as season 4 has gotten, and it will get further in volume 2, it delivers on that heart.”
Have any plot spoilers leaked?
No explicit spoilers just yet, but in a new interview with Variety, Millie Bobby Brown did offer some tease-y hints about what’s coming for Eleven during volume 2.
“Going back to the Duffer Brothers, they created Eleven in such a dynamic way this season and really directed and wrote this heroine with layers and layers that we have to peel back,” she said when asked what she’s looking forward to viewers getting to see when the second installment of the season drops this summer. “These two episodes really give you an insight on this heroine coming to life and letting Eleven do what she needs to do in order to save her friends.”
Are there any trailers for it yet?
Netflix surprised us all by dropping a surprise trailer on June 22 that gives us a bigger look at to what to expect in part 2. It looks like someone was able to snap Nancy away from Vecna’s control, but things are just getting started in Hawkins.

Everyone is getting ready for war as Vecna gets ready for his big move. It looks like the Russian crew will stay put for a little while longer as they try to get rid of the Demogorgon for good. Back in Hawkins, some of the crew are dealing with things in the Upside Down, but others will be staying behind and heading over to Creel House. As for El and the California boys? Well, we got some glimpses of what they’re up to but not enough to figure out what to expect. See for yourself in the trailer below:

Volume 2 of Season 4 of Stranger Things will keep the trend of featuring very long episodes, this time breaking the mark of the two hours. Although the second half of Season 4 only counts with two episodes, fans of Stranger Things will have almost four hours of television to chew upon as the series follows the battle between Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
In Volume 1, Stranger Things had already pushed the limits of how long a series can be by featuring multiple episodes over 1 hour and 40 minutes. Volume 2, however, will go beyond. The eighth episode of Season 4 will have only 1 hour of 20 minutes, while the ninth and final episode boasts impressive 2 hours and 20 minutes. That’s right, we are living in a moment in time where TV episodes are longer than most films in theaters.

Directed by series creators Matt and Ross Duffer (the Duffer Brothers), Season 2’s Volume 2 will also help us understand where Stranger Things will take us for Season 5, the end of Eleven’s story. So far, Season 4 has introduced a new villain, who we now believe is responsible for all the events of previous seasons. So, with Eleven coming to face Vecna at the end of Season 4, we are not quite sure what more significant threat can show in the future. There are still many questions left to answer about the Upside Down, Eleven’s dimensional-breaking together, and Vecna himself. However, with almost four hours left to watch in Volume 2, the Duffer Brothers should have plenty of time to satiate even the most curious of us fans.

In Season 4 of Stranger Things, Eleven and the Byers family moved away from Hawkins and are trying to adjust to a normal life. However, when a new menace threatens to escape the Upside Down, Eleven and her friends need to return to the haunted town and stop a monster called Vecna from escaping into our dimension. Parallel to Vecna’s rise, the upcoming season also brings Chief Hopper (David Harbour) locked away in a snowy Russian prison. The first Volume of Season 4 already broke audience records, with more than 286.7 million hours viewed in less than a week.
Season 4 of Stranger Things sees the return of Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Will (Noah Schnapp), Max (Sadie Sink), Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Chief Hopper (David Harbour), Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke), and Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer). Season 4’s cast also includes Charlie Heaton, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, and Matthew Modine.
Season 4 of Stranger Things was split into two volumes. The last two episodes of the season are set to premiere on Netflix on July 1.

The long, long wait for “Stranger Things” Season 4 is finally over — well, at least for Volume 1. Netflix debuted the first seven episodes of Season 4 on May 27, nearly three years after Season 3 premiered, but for the first time in the series’ history, the new season will be split into two parts, which means fans will have to wait to see which beloved characters make it through the biggest season yet.
Season 4 isn’t just the first to get a two-part release, it’s also the longest by far with nine episodes that are all over an hour long. In fact, the shortest episode of the new season is longer than all but one of the series’ previous episodes!
However, once you binge your way through Volume 1, you’re definitely going to want to know when you can watch the rest. Read below for everything we know about the “Stranger Things” Season 4 Part 2 release date, episode lengths and more.

When Is the Season 4 Part 2 Release Date?
Volume 2 will release on Netflix on July 1, five weeks after the premiere of Volume 1, so you may want to pace yourself as you make your way through those first seven episodes.
How Many Episodes Are in Volume 2?
There are only two episodes in the second batch, compared to seven in the first. However, the finale is the longest episode in the series’ history.
“[Episodes] 7 and 9 in particular are movies,” Matt Duffer recently told TheWrap. “And 9 is a long movie.”
Speaking to the overall extended length of the season (and those extended episode runtimes), Matt Duffer said, “A lot of it had to do with the fact that we had characters spread out in three locations and we had a lot more plot. It must be quadruple the plot we had in Season 3… That was our fun blockbuster season.”

How Long Are the Episode Runtimes?
“Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 2 isn’t as long as Volume 1, but you’ve still got several hours to watch after you finish Volume 1.
Here are the exact runtimes for Episodes 8 and 9:
Episode 8 – 1 hour, 25 minutes
Episode 9 – 2 hours, 30 minutes

Netflix snuck a brief teaser for Season 4 Volume 2 after the end credits of Volume 1, and they finally released it online as a part of “Stranger Things” day at Geeked Week. Get a sneak peak at the final two episodes below.
Is Season 4 the Last Season?
Despite its epic proportions, Season 4 is not the final season of “Stranger Things.” Netflix renewed the series for a fifth and final season in Feb. 2022, ahead of the Season 4 release.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for ‘Stranger Things,’” Matt and Ross Duffer said in the renewal announcement. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; Season 5 will be the last.”
However, that doesn’t mean Season 5 will be the last “Stranger Things” story fans see. In the same release, the Duffer Brothers also hinted at potential spinoffs down the line.
“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things’; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the Duffer Brothers added. “But first, we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”
