Professional guidelines are three to four days max. A week is approximately double that (give or take a few hours) and as we all know, bacteria growth is exponential.

    Throw it out.

With that said, strictly speaking, “maybe” is the correct answer to your question. I know because in my younger and more foolish days, I occasionally consumed cooked hamburger of that approximate age.

Having gained some “life experience” in the form of food poisoning once or twice since then, my outside limit for cooked meat is four days in the refrigerator — and very cautiously and suspiciously at that.

The only way to make sure is to open it up, stick your nose in there and give it a good sniff. If it smells off or sour in any way then throw it out. You don’t want to risk food poisoning.

If it smells fine then try a small amount. Stick it in your mouth and give it a taste. If it tastes off, sour or nasty in any way spit it out immediately and rinse your mouth with water. That’s more to get the taste o

I would look at it (no sign of mold?), Sniff it (no sour smell?). If ok, re heat in a hot pan and make into your favourite sauce or dish.

Under such conditions, leaving the container open to encourage drying is better. Moist food encourages molds.

Seven days is pushing it, but if it passes the sniff test, it “should" be fine. I'd make sure to cook it thoroughly before consumption though.

Take more care if cooking for vulnerable populations of course.

Seven days is pushing the envelope. I cook big and seldom, because it is more efficient and economical than cooking small and frequently. My favorite food is whatever has to go away to make room in the fridge to cook something else. But it needs to go away in less than seven days.

First, I would suggest better planning in the future. On your big white box, the small compartment above the refrigerated compartment is a “freezer” and it is a great place to keep anything, except condiments and beer, that you won’t eat sooner than seven days. Use it. I always try to date and label things that go in
