Almost one year since Mayim Bialik hosted her first Jeopardy! episode, she’s getting candid about wanting to stay at the lectern for good.

Before kicking off a new week of clues and answers, The Big Bang Theory alum attended the 27th Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday night, and she opened up about what her future on Jeopardy! might look like. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Mayim revealed that her time on the quiz show is slowing coming to an end and if it were up to her, she would continue standing at the podium. According to the Call Me Kat star, she will be recording new episodes until this spring. But after that, she doesn’t know what will happen.

“Could we see you permanently host?” the outlet asked. “I would love that,” Mayim replied. “I like to say, [I’ve] lived season to season since [I was] about 13 years old. So, what I know is I’m hosting until May 6, and beyond that, hopefully, I’ll know more before May 6.”

As Jeopardy! fans know, Mayim was part of the trivia show’s roster of temporary guest hosts during the second half of season 37. After her episodes aired from late May to mid-June, she was officially announced as the primetime specials host. A short time later, Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings was declared her counterpart following the abrupt exit of former executive producer Mike Richards. Throughout season 38, Mayim and Ken have been working together to host the show while a new permanent host has yet to be named.

Now, the 46-year-old TV personality is raising her hand to become part of the Jeopardy! staff full time. But upon hearing this latest development, viewers voiced their opinions. On one hand, many fans are rooting for Mayim to get the job. “Absolutely would love for her to host the show!” one person wrote on YouTube. “SHE HAS MY VOTE,” another added.

On the other hand, some folks are hoping that Ken will take the permanent position. That said, this probably won’t happen because the Jeopardy! champion already has a job behind the camera as a consulting producer.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Mayim has spoken out about becoming Jeopardy!’s permanent host. When the current season premiered back in September, the neuroscientist openly expressed how much the opportunity meant to her in an interview with Glamour. While Mayim recognized that she has a jam-packed schedule with her Fox sitcom, Call Me Kat, and her mental health podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, she still very much wishes to be a part of Jeopardy!.

“Having a full-time job [on Fox's Call Me Kat] didn't stop me from wanting it. But it really was after those two days [of filming my guest host episodes] that I realized I had never wanted anything more than that job,” she told the outlet. “I'm not a person who leans deeply into intuition. I wish that I was. But this was a case where I intuitively felt something very special had happened for me in my life. From just those two days [taping episodes to air over two weeks]. I said to the crew, ‘I don't want to leave. I really don't want to leave.’”

She added: “There's no other job I would rather have. I love my sitcom work, I do. I love all the other things I do. I love the podcast. But I absolutely have never had a better job.”

Just when you thought the Jeopardy! hosting drama was over, the engines are revving back up. Ever since last summer’s Mike Richards saga, Jeopardy! has been in a fragile detente, with Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik trading off hosting responsibilities as their schedules allow. But now, Bialik has thrown her hat in the ring for the full-time gig.

On the red carpet at Sunday night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, Bialik was asked if she’d like to host Jeopardy! permanently. "I would love that,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I like to say, [I’ve] lived season to season since about 13 years old. Some viewers are all-in on Bialik, while others still can’t get past her baggage. Ever since Bialik first entered the guest host rotation, viewers have pointed to her controversial history of vaccine skepticism as disqualification for the gig; TV critic and journalism professor Jeff Jarvis tweeted, "Mayim Bialik, though vaccinated, spreads vaccine doubt and hawks brain quackery. She is no representative for a show about facts and authority." Others have pointed to a New York Times op-ed she penned in 2017 about the survivors of Harvey Weinstein's sexual abuse, describing her arguments as victim-blaming. (Jennings, for his part, also has problematic tweets to answer for.)

Does Bialik have what it takes to fill Alex Trebek’s legendary shoes, or not? We sifted through Twitter to see what the Jeopardy! hive thinks. Read on for a survey from every corner of the fandom.

'Jeopardy!' Fans Have Mixed Feelings About Mayim Bialik Ending Her Hosting Streak

After Mayim Bialik's last day hosting 'Jeopardy!' on Friday (Ken Jennings has since taken over), fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about 'The Big Bang Theory' star.

Mayim Bialik's time hosting weekday Jeopardy! episodes has come to an end.

While folks can still expect to see The Big Bang Theory actress host specials for the quiz show in the new year, it's now time for Jeopardy! prodigy Ken Jennings to take his turn at the lectern. From now until 2022, Ken will be leading Jeopardy! contestants through the game as the search for a permanent weekday host continues.

Last Friday marked Mayim's last episode hosting the show, which crowned Kate Kohn as the new Jeopardy! champion. On Twitter, it became clear that some were sad to see Mayim leave the quiz show for the time being. "Mayim Bialik, good work from you the past seven weeks. Hope to see you back soon," one fan tweeted. "IMO @missmayim has been the BEST host of @Jeopardy since #AlexTrebek. Hire the lady full time already!" another said.

That said, there were also plenty of fans really pumped about welcoming the Jeopardy! champion back to the show. "Mayim Bialik has gotten better over the course of her run, but I'm still looking forward to @KenJennings to take over as (interim) #Jeopardy host starting Monday," a different fan noted. "Words can not properly express how happy I am that @KenJennings will be back on #Jeopardy tonight," another fan remarked.

Ken's return to Jeopardy! happens to coincide with the one-year anniversary of Alex Trebek's death on November 8 following his stage-4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The late longtime host of Jeopardy! led the show for over 35 years, including when Ken set the record for most winnings ever when he took home $2,520,700 after winning 74 consecutive games. Ken, who guest hosted the show earlier this year, has long admired how well Alex was able to do his job.

"The mechanics of hosting Jeopardy! are daunting," he told USA Today. "There's a lot going on at once, and Alex made it all look so easy. But I can tell you firsthand, it's not easy."
