Dove Cameron is speaking out following the death of her Disney costar Cameron Boyce. In a series of videos posted on Instagram, a teary-eyed Dove — who starred alongside Cameron in the Descendants films — told fans she wasn't sure if she wanted to post about the news on social media while personally dealing with the grief. But after going to therapy, she decided to write a heartfelt tribute to her friend and share it with others.
"Cameron was magic — an earth angel," she said. "Over the last six years, since he was only 14, Cameron talked me down from countless ledges, talked me through eating disorders, helped me out of a dark relationship and through endless breakdowns." She went on to share how he would help her remember dances moves and make her laugh while they were working on set.
"He was undoubtedly the most talented person most of us will ever know," she added. "But what was special about Cameron was who he was in the small moments when maybe no one was looking — the moments in between the big ones when he didn't have to be good or kind. Cameron was always good and kind."
Cameron — who had epilepsy — died at the age of 20 on July 6 after experiencing a seizure in his sleep. Following his death, many costars and friends — including Adam Sandler, Yara Shahidi, and Michelle Obama — have posted loving tributes in his honor. "Cam, you were one of a kind," wrote Skai Jackson, who starred alongside Cameron in the Disney series Jessie from 2011 to 2015. "Thank you so much for being the big brother I never had."

The actress starts off by saying that she struggled with the decision as to whether or not post about Cameron on social media. "I felt really emotional and private and intimate and social media is the opposite of that and I just couldn't quite reconcile the two or make them fit," she said. Finally, she decided that being "expressive and connective" would help her with her grieving process.

"The last 72 hours have felt like two weeks and I've spent them trying to make my thoughts and feelings into words that might communicate anything about what I'm feeling," she begins, admitting that, for the most part, she has been unsuccessful in summarizing her feelings into words and instead has been left feeling "ill and dizzy" and in shock.

Finally, she dives in, holding back tears as she first sends her love to Cameron's parents and sister. "To Victor and Libby and Maya, you are all I can think about. My heart aches for you. I'm broken for you. I have close to nothing left, which tells me some small percentage of how you must be feeling."
"Cameron was one of my favorite people alive in the world," she says. "Though I know that's not unique to me. Cameron was magic, an earth angel." Dove goes on to count all the ways Cameron supported her over the last six years they knew each other. She reveals that he "talked me down from countless ledges, talked me through eating disorders, helped me out of a dark relationship and through endless breakdowns. He would whisper the dance moves to me on live television when I didn't know what I was doing or hold my hand quietly to communicate wordlessly when we both knew we were thinking the same thing."
She also talks about the good times, like when they "ruined something because we couldn't stop making each other laugh." And while she admits that Cameron is "undoubtedly the most talented person most of us will ever know," she highlights "the small moments when maybe no one was looking. the moments in between the big ones when he didn't have to be good or kind."

"Goodbye to an earth angel," she says. "I will spend the rest of my life missing and loving you and [I'm] all the better for knowing you."
