    What’s the right way to store Worcestershire sauce? My Scottish boyfriend refrigerates his after it is opened. I’ve been using W sauce for years but keep it in my pantry, with no ill effects. Please help to settle this bet!

    No. At least in my experience. We had a bottle for 15 years that we didn't refrigerate. I never went bad. Never got sick. Never tasted different.

    Then again, I don't know what a freshly opened bottle is supposed to taste like ...

    It tastes just like your 15year bottle. Since it's fermented for years on-end before even being bottled to ship, I'd say the cockroaches will be sipping on the stuff far after we die and they take over. The stuff is time proof.

    Edit: quick Google search says an unopened bottle should last 5 years and an opened one would last 3 years as long as you don't leave it in the sun.

    It also makes the distinction of saying it does not have an expiration date, but a best by date. So the time stamp on it is a suggestion, it can last much longer.

    You should get a new bottle. The reason it doesn't taste different is because the change has been gradual. It's still safe, but it's probably worth spending a few bucks on

    I've never refrigerated it, my mum never refrigerated it and no-one I know ever refrigerates it. Appreciate that's anecdotal but the bottle in my kitchen does say: "Store in a cool, dry place. Natural separation may occur, shake well before use., Once opened consume within 3 months and by date shown."

    I think a lot of people just refrigerate anything and everything when in doubt; that's why a lot of people refridgerate bread, onions, potatoes and eggs even though there's no real need to.

    For what it's worth I'm also Scottish 😂

    Yeah both my mum and myself never refrigerate it, and that’s some 30 years old experiments lol (including hot humid summer condition)

    To my understand anything with high sugar/oil/vinegar/alcohol base produce, it doesn’t need refrigerate and probably still safe to consume after the best before date.

    Are people still putting bread in the fridge?? Fuck’s sake. It literally makes it rot faster! If you won’t use it all in time, put it in the freezer and defrost as required, but not the fridge, never the fridge!

    Its made by fermenting onions and garlic in *malt cider vinegar, mixing in salt fermented sardine juice, tamarind, molasses, sugar, chillies, probably some other ingredients.This is done in 50 gallon barrels at british cellar temp.Its fine at room temp, i wouldn't leave it out in the sun, but it should be fine.

    No, and for the record, neither does Ketchup, Mustard, Soy sauce, vinegar, barbecue sauce, onions, tomatos, avocados, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR LIVE IN GIRLFRIEND OF FOUR YEARS IS CONVINCED WILL SOMEHOW IMMEDIATELY ROT BEING OUT OF THE FRIDGE FOR MORE THAN 4 MINUTES
