In her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Charlize Theron shows up as a character (rumored to be Clea from the comics) who calls out to Doctor Strange and warns him that he has caused an “incursion.” That word is a big clue as to the future of Marvel Studios’ ongoing connected adventures. Incursions, as revealed during “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” are when two universes collide. The destruction and loss of life is rampant and only one universe is left standing.

Incursions were a part of Secret Wars, a Marvel comic book event from the ’80s and, most recently, 2015. A new Secret Wars could be the next big MCU event, with the same scope and impact of “Infinity War” and “Endgame.”
One of the key themes of “Multiverse of Madness” is traveling through alternate universes, thanks to the introduction of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), whose power is her ability to do exactly that. But walking into a universe that is not your own has consequences, and those consequences are, you guessed it: incursions.
Theron’s character literally slices a hole in the fabric of the reality around Doctor Strange, revealing another universe on the other side. She says there’s work to be done if Strange doesn’t want the incursion to destroy everything around him, and they dive into the other universe together.

Not nearly as dramatic is the second post-credits scene, featuring the comedic chops of Bruce Campbell. He has frequently made cameos in Sam Raimi’s films after starring in the director’s “Evil Dead” franchise (remember when he was the ring announcer in the first “Spider-Man” movie?), and appears at the beginning of “Multiverse of Madness” as the Pizza Papa after Doctor Strange and America Chavez land in a universe that’s not their own. In that scene, after a confrontation, Doctor Strange uses a little sorcery to make Campbell’s character begin punching his own face repeatedly.
When America Chavez asks how long the Pizza Papa will keep punching himself, Strange says it could be quite a while. Weeks, maybe.
As the second post-credits scene begins, we see Campbell’s self-inflicting punches finally stop. He looks directly into the camera and says, “It’s over.” A nod to the end of his self-punishment and to the end of “Multiverse of Madness.”

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Every Marvel movie needs a crazy cameo, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has plenty to go around. The Sam Raimi-directed sequel boasts a whole pantheon of heroes, both familiar and new, and it primarily focuses on Benedict Cumberbatch's sorcerer as he teams up with interdimensional newbie America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) to face off against the all-powerful Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).
As Strange and America zip through a seemingly endless list of universes, they cross paths with several notable faces, both heroic and otherwise. But Multiverse of Madness saves one of its wildest cameos for the very end.
The film has two end-credits scenes, both featuring starry names. The first, which comes about halfway through the credits, has a bigger impact on the rest of the multiverse. The scene follows Strange as he steps out onto the streets of New York. There, he comes face to face with a surprising figure: Charlize Theron, wearing a delightfully purple superhero suit.
Per the credits, Theron is playing a comics figure named Clea, and as she walks up to Strange, she tells him: "You caused an incursion, and we're going to fix it." He doesn't seem to know her, but she knows him, and together, they step through a portal, heading off toward another adventure.

Earlier in the film, both Stephen and the audience are introduced to the concept of an incursion — Marvel's term for when meddling with space and time causes two universes to crash into each other and collapse. In another universe, an alternate version of Dr. Strange causes an incursion while trying to defeat Thanos; as punishment, his allies in the Illuminati sentenced him to death. It remains to be seen exactly which universe(s) Clea is referencing, but whatever the consequences are, it can't be good.
As for Clea herself, she isn't exactly a marquee Marvel name. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, she made her comics debut in 1964, and she's a powerful magic user from the Dark Dimension. Like Strange, she takes on the title of Sorcerer Supreme, and she also happens to be the niece of Dormammu (the big bad of the first Doctor Strange movie, the one that Stephen came to bargain with). In the comics, she's a powerful ally to Stephen, and eventually, the two fall in love.
No word yet on how Clea and Stephen might get along in the MCU, but Theron's casting is big news. The Oscar-winning actress is no stranger to big, bombastic franchises like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Fate of the Furious, but her appearance marks a star-powered addition to the MCU. We'll have to wait and see exactly when and where Theron might pop up again, but the Multiverse of Madness end credits promise that "Doctor Strange will return," so we might be seeing her sooner rather than later.
The second end-credits scene has lower stakes, but it's still delightful. You can't have a Raimi movie without a Bruce Campbell cameo, and Campbell delivers, popping up earlier in Multiverse of a Madness as an alternate-universe pizza vendor named Pizza Poppa. (In his universe, pizza doesn't come in triangles but in bite-sized-ball form, which, sure.) After a confrontation, Strange lays a temporary curse on Campbell's character, causing him to frantically punch himself in the head. (Bruce Campbell: Always fighting against his own hand!) In the end-credits scene, however, the curse finally wears off, and a relieved Campbell turns to the camera and tells the audience to go home, Ferris Bueller-style.
Campbell and Raimi have a long history together, going all the way back to the Evil Dead franchise, and the actor appeared in all three of Raimi's Spider-Man films. If Raimi comes back for another Marvel movie — which he's previously said he's open to considering — there's a good chance that Campbell might be making yet another cameo sometime soon.

‘Doctor Strange 2’ Post-Credits Scenes Explained: Could There Be More Multiverse Madness?
BY ROSS BONAIME
UPDATED 12 HOURS AGO
What could the two post-credits scenes mean for the future of the MCU?

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
At this point, we all know that one of the most important parts of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film is the end credits, which often leaves the audience with a glimpse of what to expect with future films and TV shows, or a fun joke to end on. The 28th MCU film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is no different, featuring both a mid-credits scene, and an end-credits scene. So what can audiences expect to see once the madness is concluded?
The mid-credits scene shows Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) walking down a street in New York City, when a portal opens up that appears to lead to the dark dimension that held Dormammu in the 2016’s Doctor Strange. A woman dressed in purple (Charlize Theron) tells Strange that she needs her help in saving the universe again. Doctor Strange opens his third eye, and the pair jump into this new dimension, and likely into a new adventure that we’ll see in the future.

In the scene, Theron makes her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Clea, a character who is Dormammu’s niece, and is also a love interest for Strange. In the comics, Clea and Strange defeat Dormammu, and eventually, Clea and Strange get married. We last saw Dormammu in Doctor Strange, when Strange confused the being into submission at the end of that film. Meanwhile, it’s pretty convenient that Clea shows up after the love of Strange’s life in all the universes, Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), gets married at the beginning of Multiverse of Madness. At the very end of the credits the film states that “Doctor Strange Will Return,” and after this mid-credits scene, it seems likely that when he returns, Clea will be by his side.
Since the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Theron has introduced the world to Clea via her Instagram. While Multiverse of Madness does say at the end of the credits that "Doctor Strange will return," and we can assume that Clea will likely be by his side when he does return, it's unclear when we might see these two traversing the multiverse together.
The scene at the very end of the credits is a goofy little joke for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to end on. Earlier in the film, Strange has an altercation with a man in an alternate dimension who goes by the name of Pizza Poppa (played by Sam Raimi’s consistent cameo maker, Bruce Campbell), who confronts America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) after she steals a bowl of his street vendor pizza balls (exactly what they sound like). To stop Pizza Poppa, Strange casts a spell on the man, having his spray mustard in his own face, then leaving the man to hit himself repeatedly. As Strange and America walk away, Strange states that the spell will last three weeks.
In the film’s final scene, we see an exhausted Pizza Poppa continuing to hit himself, until finally, the spell wears off. Excitedly, Pizza Poppa looks at the camera and proclaims, “It’s over!” Hey, what a fitting way to end a film! And at least Multiverse of Madness ends with the film’s true hero, Pizza Poppa, and his own personal victory of not having to hit himself in the face anymore. Fingers crossed that Raimi directs another Doctor Strange film, if for no other reason than to let Pizza Poppa get the revenge he clearly deserves against Doctor Stephen Strange.
